Maple Bourbon Tofu Cubes – GOAT


Life can be sweet, and so can tofu be elevated to haute cuisine status! Serve as appetizer or small plate! Yes, the Bourbon Barrel Aged Grade A Maple Syrup really does taste like bourbon. Good enough to drink. I’ll have a shot of the bourbon maple syrup with a fresh lemon squeeze please!

Serves 5

2, 14 oz. blocks firm vacuum packed tofu, rinse and cut into 3/8 inch cubes by FRANKLIN FARMS via GORDON FOOD STORES


2 T. soy sauce

2 T. liquid smoke

1/4 c. water

2 t. onion powder

1 t. garlic powder

1 t. smoked paprika

1 t. salt

fresh ground black pepper

1 T. extra virgin olive oil


2 T. light brown sugar


fresh sliced basil

fresh grind black pepper

extra virgin olive oil drizzle

fresh lemon wedges

1- In extra-large non-stick skillet, over medium-low heat, combine all sauce ingredients, except brown sugar and garnishes.

2- Swirl the contents around in pan.

3- Immediately add all tofu cubes, lifting and turning with wide turner till all cubes are colored the same light brown.

4- Continue to cook, while turning occasionally, till all liquid evaporates.

5- Add brown sugar, stir to evenly distribute and cook about 4 minutes longer making sure it all melts.

6- Serve on a pool of maple syrup on individual plates. Top with sliced fresh basil. Sprinkle with fresh grind black pepper. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil. Serve with fresh lemon wedge.

What else to do with these Maple Tofu Cubes?


Cut the MAPLE TOFU CUBES in a bowl with a pastry cutter.

Add a little celery seed and veg mayo. Mix well.

1st sandwich – toasted soft dill rye, spread with Poupon Dijon Mustard, close, cut and eat.

2nd sandwich – toasted soft dill rye, spread one toast with prepared yellow mustard, top with salad. Spread second toast with ANTIPASTO PATE. Close, cut and eat.

  • We had leftover pate from New Years, so used it on this sandwich with excellent results. Steve said ‘that tofu tastes like chicken’. He went out and bought four more bottles of bourbon maple syrup.
