We go to Dewey’s in the afternoon when hardly anybody’s there. We have the whole restaurant to ourselves and sometimes we like that. Today is one of those times.
I picked a hard cider for beverage. The waiter said it’s popular, light, dry, with pear undertones, and he was right. A delicious drink. Better than White Claw brand that stings the throat with a harshness that gets worse the colder they serve it.
The house salad comes with goat cheese so I substitute red roasted peppers. Roasted pine nuts, cranberries and field greens with a citrus-cilantro vinaigrette. I was hoping for the roasted pepper dressing, but they replaced it with this new dressing which was a perfect match for the salad. Creamy too.
ONTO THE PIZZA
I ordered an 11 inch pizza with marinara sauce base topped with artichokes to sub for the mozzarella plus Kalamata olives and banana peppers.
I brought my own FOLLOW YOUR HEART PARM SHREDS and DAIYA BLUE CHEEZE DRESSING. I applied them after the pizza was delivered to our table and they worked beautifully to compliment the other ingredients. No problems with the waiter or the kitchen staff for the BYO vegan cheese. They would have cooked it on the pizza if I wanted that, but today I wanted to try it as an after-baking topping.
Dewey’s probably has the closest to the type of crust I grew up on where there was a large Italian presence in Massachusetts. The crunch and softness were prefect, the sauce tasty, can-stand-alone type of flavors and textures.
It’s a super clean, super friendly and super professional establishment.
I’m already looking forward to my next visit.
